This luxurious woven jacquard robe of 82% pure virgin wool and 18% cotton blanket is fully reversable, offering a different variation of the same colors on the back. The Chief Joseph design incorporates arrowheads, which symbolize bravery, pointing in the four directions of Mother Earth. Woven in Pendleton's Northwest Mills, the blanket is felt bound and napped. The Pendleton Chief Joseph Blanket Collection was first designed in the early 1920s, and today continues as the most popular and one of the oldest continuously-produced blanket design by Pendleton Woolen Mills. The bold Native American geometric design commemorates Northwest Nez Perce Chief Joseph, known as a skilled leader and brave warrior. The original "robe" size of these blankets is still made today, and traditionally was used by tribal members for warmth and ceremonial purposes.

When the U.S. government ordered the Nez Perce onto reservations in Idaho, Chief Joseph resisted, leading his band toward Canada. Considered a brilliant strategist, he won many battles against great odds. In 1877 he surrendered to save his people from a harsh winter with little food and no blankets. The Chief Joseph design includes Native American symbols of strength and bravery, attributes of this great chief whose courage and determination won him respect in times of peace and war.
