"Dia de Muertos (Day of the Dead) is a popular Mexican holiday, which focuses on gatherings of family and friends who pray for and remember individuals who have died. I would argue that it should be Dias de Muertos, as the holiday is really a three day celebration. October 31st is All Hallows eve, where children make an altar to invite the spirits of dead children to come back for a visit. November 1st is All Saints Day when adult spirits come to visit, and November 2nd is All Souls Day, where families decorate the graves of their relatives. The iconography associated with the holiday has become well known globally largely due to the skulls and skeletons featured in paintings and on the faces of celebrants. Inspired by Jose Guadalupe Posada?s La Calavera Catrina, one of our artists designed this buckle (La Calavera Ctrina or Elegant Skull in English is a zinc etching that has become an icon of the holiday). It is unquestionably one of our most unique buckles, featuring multiple metals, inlaid stones, and inlaid rhinestones. One quick look at this buckle and it is clear why all of our buckles are handmade. No machine could match this buckle. We make this buckle in two variations. One with a bloodwood background (yes, we used bloodwood intentionally) and a little darker color palate, and one with a chipped turquoise background. This buckle receives a lot of attention.
